USA/Canada Diversity - Languages

To fulfill the Great Commission, becoming a multi-cultural church was the best thing our Nazarene movement ever did! If you are just beginning to understand how we are all called to help lead a multi-cultural church, please read this article by one of our superintendents, Albert Hung, entitled “Heaven On Earth.” We are committed to NOT being anglo-centric and English-focused alone. While 75% of our current churches fall into this category, we are driven by God’s vision of a heavenly church — reaching individuals “from every nation, tribe, people and language” who will stand with us before God’s throne (Revelation 7:9).

In collaboration with multiple districts and our global educational institutions, we have the goal to provide courses for every language group on every district who hunger to start and lead a healthy church. We are creating a team of people who are pursuing this vision within their districts. If you are operating in other languages on your district besides English and Spanish, our Multi-Cultural Ministries Team is very interested in connecting with you

Many people in existing Nazarene churches do not know how diverse we are in the USA/Canada and how much further we have to go to accurately reflect the multi-cultural make-up of both the United States and Canada. We have made a beginning but still have much work to do. Below is the most recent report from Dr. Roberto Hodgson in USA/Canada Multi-Cultural Ministries of our 1,357 multi-cultural churches. Multicultural Ministries is also committed to provide financial assistance to needy, committed and promising men and women of ethnic cultures pursuing education at one of our Nazarene schools. Canadian Ethnicities - With about 36 million people, Canada has one of the highest per-capita immigration rates in the world. The demographics of Canada include multiple ethnic origins, including Canadian (32%), English (18%), Scottish (14%), French (14%), Irish (13%), German (10%), Chinese (5%), Italian (5%) and a number of others. A listing of visible minority populations and the provinces where they are located can be found at the link above.

United States Ethnicities - While white, European Americans are currently the majority of people living in the United States, non-Hispanic whites are not the majority in California, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas and the District of Columbia. Projections are that non-Hispanic whites will drop below 50% of the overall U.S. population by 2043. The Nazarene movement is VERY committed to multiplying churches in EVERY language group in the U.S. and new groups God is sending here.
